Canine Bowen Technique

“A gentle way to promote pain-relief, reduce stress
and rebalance the body”.

Canine Bowen Technique is a safe, gentle, holistic therapy that uses light rolling moves over muscles and soft tissue. It encourages the body to heal itself naturally and is very effective in maintaining good health as well as promoting pain-relief, reducing stress and relieving structural problems.

Canine Bowen Technique is based on the principles of The Bowen Technique, a human therapy developed by an Australian, Tom Bowen (1916-1982).
Its adaptation for use on dogs was started in 2001 by Bowen therapists Sally & Ron Askew, who integrated it into their dog behavioural and rehabilitation work; founding the European Guild of Canine Bowen Therapists in 2003.

What is Canine Bowen Technique helpful for?

Canine Bowen Technique is a holistic therapy. This means that it treats your dog as a whole, rather than particular symptoms. For example, if your dog is limping then you may find that other areas of body will be worked over – not just the affected leg. This helps to address other possible imbalances which may have built up as a result of the dog trying to compensate for the original problem.
With this in mind, Canine Bowen Technique may be of benefit to dogs with the following types of conditions:

Acute injuries – falls, accidents, sprains

Chronic illness & degenerative conditions – improving quality of life, helping your dog cope with pain & mobility problems e.g. arthritis, spinal problems, hip/elbow dysplasia

Relaxation in times of stress & anxiety – rescue dogs, previous trauma, loss of confidence in older dogs

Fears and phobias e.g. fireworks, thunder, car travel

Behavioural problems – helping to calm a reactive dog, helping your dog cope with change

  Digestive problems

Pre & post operative treatments – helping to reduce recovery time after surgery

Prevention & maintenance treatments for active, working or competition dogs.
