The Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique is a gentle, relaxing light-touch therapy that was developed in Australia by Tom Bowen (1916-1982). Bowen is performed directly on skin or through light clothing. Rolling-type moves are made over muscles and soft tissue at particular locations on the body to encourage the body to heal itself naturally.

Movements are made on soft tissue only (not on bones) and do not involve forceful moves of any kind. No oils or creams are used. The Bowen Technique is very effective in maintaining good health as well promoting pain-relief, reducing stress and re-balancing the body. Bowen is relaxing to receive, and highly effective.

The Bowen Technique is a holistic therapy – this means it treats you rather than a particular symptom. For example, if you have a shoulder problem you will find that your whole body will be treated – not just your shoulder. With that in mind, The Bowen Technique may be of benefit to people with the following types of conditions:

  Anxiety and stress-related conditions

Back pain, sciatica & spinal problems

  Infant colic & sleep problems

  Headaches & migraines

  Respiratory problems including asthma

  Hayfever & allergies

  Joint problems, frozen shoulder

  Sports injuries, whiplash

  Hormonal imbalances

  Digestive & bowel problems

  Pain management

  Pre and post operative support

Helping manage problems associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder

Please note: The Bowen Technique is not a substitute for medical treatment, if in doubt please consult your doctor.
